Estelle Rosemarie (Saunders) DeVere, an Executive of the Woodward & Lothrop Dept Store in Washington, D.C. was a Personnel Manager, who retired in 1972. She died on February 2, 2017, at Atria Assisted Living, in Longmont, CO. She was 92 years old. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 17, 1924. When she was 12 years old, her parents Walter and Stella Block drove them to South Dakota for a vacation. They visited Walter's sister Olive, and her husband Carl M. DeVere Sr. who owned and operated a Tent Show. Their son Buddy DeVere was 15 years old, and when they met Estelle and Buddy fell in love at first sight. Three days after their first meeting, Buddy said to her, "When you and I grow up, we're going to get married, move to Colorado and raise horses!" When Bud and Estelle grew up, they did get married when she was 19 and he was 20 and a Marine just returned from Guadalcanal Island in the South Pacific after two years of service in World War II. They were married in an Episcopal Church in Laredo, TC on April 8, 1944. Their first child was Carl M. DeVere III, nicknamed "Buz" who was born in Laredo on June 29, 1945. Next was Dani DeVere, who was born November 26, 1948 in West Palm Beach, FL while Bud was on recruiting duty for the Marine Corps; then came Craig DeVere who was also born in West Palm Beach on November 29, 1952. Their last child was Mark DeVere, born on February 22, 1959 in Uniontown, PA during another tour of Recruiting Duty. Estelle and Bud were transferred many times with their family. Laredo, TX, Quantico, VA, Albuquerque, NM, Twenty-nine Palms, VA. When Bud retired from active duty, he went to work September, 1968 as a Curator of the National Marine Corps Museum in Washington D.C. and they lived in Alexandria, VA. Finally, after retiring from Civil Service in 1988, Estelle and Bud moved to Longmont, in 2004 to be near their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Crist Mountain View Mortuary on Friday, February 10, at 11:00am. Friends are asked to send donations to the Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.
