Ernestine Singleton , age 80, of Birmingham , AL, formerly a long-time resident of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2020.
Ernestine was born on January 3rd, 1940 in Birmingham , AL.
Ernestine married the love of her life, Edward T. Roland in 1957. The couple settled in Chicago in the early 1960\'s, where they raised their two children; Janet and Rita .
Ernestine spent more than 40 years in Birmingham before relocating to Chicago 10 years ago to be closer to her family.
Ernestine was a dedicated and hard worker. She worked as a Trouble Shooter for AGFA for many years before retiring.
Ernestine was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become a \"Grammy\" to her 7 grandchildren. Ernestine loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company.
Ernestine was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Ernestine was the beloved wife of the late Edward T. Rowland, devoted mother of Janet Rowland , & Rita Rowland. Ernestine was a loving \"Grammy\" of Travis Allen, Brandon Edward, Twana Phillips, Tonja Phillips, Alexander Russell, Andrew Joseph, & Shea Thomas. She was a loving great “Grammy” to Randolph Robinson, Deja Dickens, Tyler Dickens, Kayla Phillips, Kyla Phillips, La’Marion Robinson, & Jai’Aryus Lee Eldridge.
Family and friends will gather at the Davenport & Harris Funeral Home , 301 Martin Luther King Dr, Birmingham AL on Tuesday, July 1st for Visitation from 11:00-1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow @ Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum.
