Ernestine Martha Fischer LambertusErnestine "Mimi" Lambertus, of Des Moines, IA, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. She was born on November 17, 1912 to Ernest and Julia (Ulrich) Fischer in Indianapolis, IN.Her parents immigrated from Alsace Lorraine to Greenfield, IN and later moved to Indianapolis where they lived on and managed the Eli Lilly Apple Orchards. Ernestine graduated from Nora Public School, Broad Ripple High School in 1931, and attended
Purdue University. She met Frank Lambertus, Sr. at Purdue University and they married in 1933 and had three children. She and her husband loved to travel and at one time they lived in South Korea for five months. Frank was teaching a company to make sleeve type bearings. That was when the U.S. was helping impoverished nations after the war. Ernestine's job was teaching English to students in a baking company.She volunteered at Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis and at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. She belonged to St. Margaret's Hospital Guild, Meridian Hills CC, Seton Society of St. Vincent Hospital, Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity, Queen Esther Chapter OES in Indianapolis, 1820 Society of
Indiana University, and Purdue Alumni Association. In 2005 Mimi moved to Des Moines to be near her family. While there she joined PEO Chapter IKN in Des Moines, Plymouth Congregational Church and the Des Moines Women's Club. In 2014 she was elected to the President's Circle at Indiana University for her gifts to Indiana University and Purdue University.She is survived by her sons, Frank Lambertus II of Huntington, WV and Richard Lambertus (Susan Welsh) of Winter Garden, FL; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lambertus, Sr.; her brother, Ernest J. Fischer; her sister, Julie Pflum; and her daughter, Juliann Marie Conwell.A reception to celebrate the life of Ernestine "Mimi" Lambertus will be held on what would have been her 104th birthday, November 17, 2016, in the Greenwood Room at Plymouth Congregational Church from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Memorials may be given in her memory to Plymouth Congregational Church, 4126 Ingersoll Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312.
