This obituary is administered by:
Ernest W. Jordan Jr. of AuGres passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 at Lakeview Manor Healthcare Center in Tawas City, age 95 years. Ernest was born on March 18, 1921 in Detroit to Ernest W. and Gertrude (Rawley) Jordan Sr. He proudly served our nation during World War II as a sergeant in the United States Army. While serving his country, he became a medic with the heroic group of soldiers called the Merrill's Marauders, who are revered as some of our nations bravest. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Ernest went to college and earned his Master's degree and then began his 33 year career in teaching and administration in the public school system, mostly in the Iosco and Arenac County area. He was a very community oriented gentleman who served as president with the Tawas Kiwanis, president of the Tawas Lions, president of the MEA in Kalamazoo, a past member of the Phi Delta Kappa, and a former secretary of the AuGres Lions, a lifetime member of the VFW, a lifetime member of the American Legion in Standish, member of the AuGres Men's Club and a regular patron of the "coffee clutch" in AuGres. He was a long time member of the Tawas United Methodist Church and in 1999, he transferred to the Christ United Methodist Church in AuGres to be closer to his home. Ernest will also be remembered for his passion of gardening, golfing, traveling, lighthouses and patronizing casinos. Above all of his achievements and involvements, Ernest truly loved spending quality time with all of his family and dear friends. He will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Ernest is survived by his wife, Mary Jordan of AuGres; children, Pam (Dan) Roiter of Hale, Wendell (Terry) Jordan of Holland and Kim (Tom) Pieske of Saginaw; three step children, Vickie Sheeder, Janet Freehling and Scott (Dawn) Freehling; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara (Bill) Allen of Arizona; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; step sons, David Sheeder and Bernard Freehling; step son and step daughter in law, Bernard and Kathy Freehling; a sister, Florence Flispe; and a brother, Bill Jordan. There will be visitation for Ernest on Tuesday at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in AuGres with Pastor David Wichert officiating and military honors being rendered. His family will welcome friends at the church Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Per his wishes cremation will follow the funeral and he will be laid to rest in Tawas Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider either Christ United Methodist Church in AuGres, or the AuGres Cub and Boy Scouts.
