Ernest Edward Gates, 79, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016, at Magnolia Regional Health Care in Corinth, MS. He was born on May 9, 1937, to Elgin and Velma Michaels Gates in Tippah County-Mississippi. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict and later retiring in 1991 from the Army- National Guard. He was a member of Lowry United Methodist Church in Ripley, MS.Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 30, 2016, in McBride Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenneth Harrison officiating and Bro. Terry Ray Vuncannon assisting. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Walnut, MS. with full military honors.Visitation will be Sunday morning, October 30, 2016, from 7:00 A.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M. at McBride Funeral Home.Ernest is survived by his wife: Lyda Childers Gates - Ripley, Ms; one daughter: Tina Yates (David) - Ripley, MS; one son: Marty Gates (Susan) - Murfreesboro, TN; three sisters: Oma G. Guynes (Mickey), Lillian Guynes (Donnie), and Bertha Thompson (Danny) all of Ripley, MS; two brothers: Verdis Gates (Mary Lou) and E.J. Gates both of Ripley, MS; three grandchildren: Ashley Clemmer (Jeff) - Ripley,MS, Whitney Henry (Eric) New Albany, MS, Braden Gates--Murfreesboro, TN, and five great-grandchildren.Ernest was peceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Danny Gates and Burton Gates.Pallbearers will be Braden Gates, Logan Henry, Eric Henry, Jeff Clemmer, Richard Jeter, James Gates.Expressions of Sympathy for the family may be left at www.mcbridefuneralhome.com
