Erasmia MihalisErasmia Mihalis, of Riverview, MI, passed away April 3, 2017. She was born on July 3, 1929 in Messini, Greece to John and Tasia Kyriakopoulos; the youngest of seven children. She immigrated to America in 1955 entering the US through Ellis Island, New York. She traveled by ship for ten days and was told that as soon as she saw the great lady holding her torch, she would know she was in America. Erasmia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her beautiful KOUKLA (doll) as she called granddaughter Alexa. Always teaching her the Greek customs she was raised with. She was an accomplished seamstress, and she loved the warm weather in Dunedin, FL, where she and Angelo were snow-birds for the past 30 years. Her passion of cooking Greek meals was always the delight for family and friends. As a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Southgate, MI., prayer and devotion filled her daily life.Erasmia is survived by her husband of 61 years, Angelo Mihalis, Riverview, Michigan; her loving daughter, Athena Gill and husband Bob, Tallahassee, FL; beloved granddaughter, Alexa Bayer and husband Adam, Tallahassee, FL; her sister, Katherine Yanoulakis of Troy, Michigan; her loving step-grandchildren, Bobby Gill, Marilyn Matherne (Marlow), Stephanie Bishara (John) and many loving nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her loving son, John Mihails, LA California; her brothers, Theodore and George Kyriakopoulos and her sisters, Aphroditis Yanakopoulos, and Baso Thomopoulos, Messini Greece, and Helen Nicholos, Santa Ana, California. Special thanks to her caregivers, Lola Cappella, Southgate, MI, Susan Wyle, Clearwater, FL and the staff of Big Bend Hospice for the special care and for all of their love and attention given to our sweet Mom and Yiayia.A visitation will be held at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 N. Monroe St., Tallahassee, FL, Wednesday, April 5, from 6-8 p.m. with a Trisagion Service (blessing of the soul) at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church, 1645 Phillips Rd, with burial at Oakland Cemetery followed by a luncheon (Makaria) at Holy Mother of God. Rocky Bevis of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the Mihalis family with their arrangements.
