Emily DempsterKnoxville, TNEmily S. Dempster, age 92, died peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2016, in Knoxville. Emily was born on May 12, 1924, in Scott County, Virginia, the daughter of James and Lula Snodgrass. Emily graduated from Radford College and soon after worked on The Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, during World War, II. She eventually became accountant and co-owner of Dempster Machine Shop in Knoxville, established in 1886. She was married to Richard R. Dempster in 1947, whom she met on a blind date, until his passing in 1994. Emily loved and enjoyed her family throughout her long life and loved weekly Sunday family dinners, holiday gatherings, and traveling with her husband and children.Emily is survived by two sisters, Shirley Tibbs and Sara Stockton. Richard and Emily went on to have six children, Richard, Charles, Stephen, Ross, Emily, and Mary Ann. Grand children include, Shana, Andrew, Nicholas, Parker, Josh, Anna, Gordon, Amelia, and Miranda.Services will be held at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, with the receiving of friends from 4:45-6:00 p.m., and the funeral immediately following. The burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery, on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Emily's name may be made to First Baptist Knoxville, 510 W.
