Elsie (Yount) Brands, 93, of Buffalo, New York, formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016.She was born on Aug. 25, 1923, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Charles M. and Ruth (Dinger) Yount.On Dec. 4, 1946, Elsie married Herbert G. Brands, and after nearly 61 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2007.Elsie was an adventurer, and with Herbert, they traveled the world, most notably the continental United States, Canada and Europe. Germany and Austria were her favorite destinations.She loved to cook, and she canned her own fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed her talents of knitting, crocheting and quilt-making.For more than 50 years, she owned and operated a beauty salon, and for an equal amount of time, she volunteered at the VA Hosp-ital in Buffalo, New York. She was a member of Faith Chapter No. 722 Order of the Eastern Star, serving as a past matron of Bethlehem Chapter No. 634. She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile.Elsie is survived by a sister, Nancy Yates; two sisters-in-law, Helen Yount and Doris Yount; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to her husband and parents, Elsie was preceded in death by four brothers, Marlin (Rachel) Yount, Rodger Yount, Howard (Anne) Yount and C. Dick Yount; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Yates.Family and friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at the McKinney - d'Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will take place immediately following the viewing, beginning at 11 a.m. and officiated by the Rev. Chuck Jack.Interment will take place at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Knox Township, Jefferson County.Prior funeral services were held for the convenience of her friends and family at the Lester H.
