Gates, Elizabeth AnnElizabeth Ann Gates, age 95, of Cambridge, Wisconsin passed peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Our House Senior Living in Cambridge, WI.Elizabeth was born on April 7, 1922 in West Salem, WI, the youngest of three daughters of George and Emma (Hass) Heider. She was raised on the family farm, graduating from West Salem High School in 1939. She subsequently earned her Registered Nurse diploma from the Methodist School of Nursing, Madison, WI. Beth served stateside in the Army Nurse Corps for the U.S. Air Force during WWII. She worked as a nurse in various locations for 44 years, retiring from the Marshfield Clinic in 1987.On September 30, 1950, Elizabeth married Louis Gatyas and they soon began raising their family. For business reasons, their surname was changed to Gates in 1969.Elizabeth was a kind, gracious, strong and perceptive lady. She was the type of person who seldom gave advice but you knew to listen when it came. She was an avid reader who delighted in curling up with a good thick book. Beth so enjoyed her family and friends. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.Surviving are her daughter Melanie (Michael) Rumpf, Cambridge, WI; daughter-in-law LuAnn Gates, Stevens Point, WI; grandchildren: David (Lesli) Rumpf, Cambridge, WI, Andrew (Amber) Rumpf, Oconomowoc, WI, and Matthew Gates, Stevens, Point, WI; and four great-grandchildren.Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louis Gates; son Todd Gates; and two sisters: Dorothy Heider and Gretchen (William) Manke.A private family graveside service will be held at the Marshfield Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield, WI.Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to the National Parkinson Foundation on behalf of family members, or to the Marshfield Public Library, Marshfield, WI.The Nitardy Funeral Home is assisting the family, www.nitardyfuneralhome.com
