Eleanor Walsh Wood - SAVANNAH - Eleanor Walsh Wood, 95, wife of the late Charles F. Wood passed away Monday, March 18th, 2019 at Savannah Square. Eleanor was a native and life-long resident of Savannah. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's Academy, class of 1942 and Draughons Business College. She married Charles F. Wood in 1944. He was a Chatham County Commissioner and former Commissioner with the Chatham County Police Department as well as a past Commodore at the Savannah Yacht Club. Eleanor was an avid animal lover and supported various animal rescue operations. She enjoyed outdoor activities and boating and was a Communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Wood Lukic and son, Joel F. Wood, Sr. Surviving are her grandchildren, Chuck Ceccacci of Marietta, Carolyn Ceccacci of Thomasville, Joel F. Wood, Jr. of Savannah, Eleanor Elly Lukic of Metter; cousins, Michael Walsh of Delaware, John Walsh of Virginia and numerous great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21st at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 22nd at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor P. James Costigan, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, PO Box 30859, Savannah, GA 31410.
