This obituary is administered by:
Eleanor (Comouche) Turner • WilliamstownEleanor Turner, of Williamstown, passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning Aug. 5th surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. She went to join the love of her life that she had known since kindergarten, Ralph F. Turner, whom she was married to for 58 years. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph, both her parents, Sam and Eleanor and all three brothers; Joe, Pat and Sam Comouche.Eleanor was born on January 22, 1936 in Ossining, NY to Eleanor and Sam Comouche. She attended Ossining High School, where she reconnected with Ralph, graduated in 1953 and went to Berkley Business School. She worked at Westchester County Bank in White Plains, NY before becoming engaged to Ralph and married on Oct. 13, 1956 at St. Anne's Church in Ossining, NY, where they were active members for many years. She then became a mother to her 6 children and for the next 10 years stayed at home raising them in Ossining, NY. She leaves her children Ralph Turner, Jr. of Monroe NY, Richard Turner of Underhill VT, Jeanne Turner Comouche and her wife Karen Fromhold of Ferrisburgh, VT, James Turner and MaryAnn Turner of Panama City, FL, John Turner of Williamstown, VT, and Michael Turner of White Plains, NY. In 1968 the Turner family moved to Garrison, NY where they built their first home. Eleanor worked as a secretary to Ralph at his insurance business, The Turner Agency, until they sold it ten years later. Next, she worked at Graymoor Missionary in Garrison in the accounting department for 20 years and quickly became a manager in her division. The family travelled to VT all the time exploring backroads, visiting towns, having picnics, hiking and exploring the state from 1967 on. She and Ralph dreamed of building a log cabin and retiring there. Their dream came true in 1998 when they purchased 60 acres of land in Williamstown, VT. The land included everything she had prayed for—softwoods, hardwoods, trails, fields and a stream. After clearing the land themselves, a log home was built in 2003. Ralph and Eleanor enjoyed their Vermont home and it was often filled with family and friends. A pot of sauce was always on the stove with food to share for all. Eleanor was a devout Catholic, prayed her rosary and watched the daily Mass on TV. She was a member of St. Edward's Church in Williamstown. The family would like to thank Bayada Hospice especially, Sherry, RN, and Martha, LNA who took such wonderful care of Eleanor. A Mass and Celebration of her life will be held Sept. 14th at 11:00 am at St. Edward's Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Edward's Church, 76 Beckett St., Williamstown, VT 05679.Visit burlingtonfreepress.com/obituaries to Express condolences and sign the guest book.
