Eleanor Marie Piontek Dietzler Obituary
Jun 24, 1920 - Jan 29, 2017
This obituary is administered by:
Dietzler, Eleanor Marie (Brien) Piontek"Elly", age 96, Dear Mother, Sister, Aunt, Friend, bread baker, expert knitter, mender and 'Everyone's Grandma' (AKA: Grandma Elly, Grandma John or Grandma Mutzy), passed away on March 29, 2017 of congestive heart failure surrounded by her family. She was born on June 24, 1920 in Green Bay to Beulah and Homer Brien. Elly was the second oldest of 5 children Dolores, Beatrice, Homer Jr. and Robert. She married Edward Piontek on February 4, 1939 and they had 4 wonderful children together before he passed away on March 5, 1956. Elly was a widow at the age of 35 with four young children ages 15,13,7 and 3 years old. She worked as a waitress to support her family at many local restaurants. Elly retired from Eve's Supper Club in 1985, where she was employed the longest and made many lifelong friends. She married her second husband John Dietzler on February 5, 1966. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1995. Elly was someone that always wanted to stay busy. She loved her exercise classes at the CP Center and made many friends there. Elly also enjoyed her book club, "The Women Who Walk On Water" and all the new friends she made. She came out of retirement more than once to help her daughter Pat and son-in-law Chuck, in the commissary of their business Steiner Vending. Elly was always busy sewing, baking bread, making blankets, crocheting and knitting booties for preemies. She learned to swim from her little brother Bob at the age of 73. Elly was always so proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would fill in for neighbor kids that didn't have grandparents for "grandparent's day" at school. Elly always looked so beautiful because her daughter, Kathy did her hair multiple times a week without fail since the 60's. In 2008, her daughter Kathy and Don Putnam built a new home for themselves and Elly. Kathy, her children and grandchildren took excellent care of Elly for over 9 years in their home. Her daughter Pat and son Bob took her many times on weekends to their cottages, which she loved. The one thing she always said when anyone took her in a car was "I sure wish I could drive again I never should of got rid of my car". Her family took her to dinner and a movie almost every Tuesday for "$5.00 night". She really enjoyed some pretty racy movies in the last couple of years. Elly must of broke a world record for a woman over 90 going out to lunch or dinner with family. She must have averaged 5 times a week and even though she could not see the menu very well she always had to look it over and then order the same thing every time. On October 17, 2016 she started falling and needed more care so she went into an assisted living home, Patient Pines until her death.Elly had a lot of hard losses in her long life. Preceding her in death were her parents, her first and second husbands, sisters and brothers-in-law Dolores and Paul Harper, Beatrice and Don Vandertie; brother and sisters-in-law Homer (Sonny); Evelyn Brien, Jean Brien. She lost her beloved son Thomas Piontek on November 1, 1984 to cancer and her son-in-law Gary Ashley to a heart attack on April 6.1995, both in their 40's. She also lost her son-in-law to be Don Putnam on July 7, 2011 to cancer.Elly is survived by her brother Robert Brien; her children, Pat (Chuck) Steiner, Kathy Ashley, Robert (Mary Clare)Piontek, and daughter-in-law Jean Piontek; 15 grandchildren Tim(Terri) Steiner, Susan (Kevin) Salewski, Laurie (Andy) Pfotenhauer, T.J.
