Elder G. L Fizer was born May 22, 1927 to the late Golden Fizer and Julie Fizer.  To their union eight children were born.  Three daughters Julie Mae, Lillie Mae, and Buelah Mae:  Five sons Luther B, L.E, G.L, James, and Elijah.  

 

Elder G. L Fizer accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Mt. Morgan COGIC in Louisiana.  He was pastored by his father the late Golden Fizer at True Vine COGIC where his late brother Elder James Fizer later became the pastor. At this time, he was a member of Faith Community Center, Pastor Superintendent Chaney.   Elder G.L Fizer became the assistant pastor at Cooper’s Temple COGIC in Inkster, Michigan under the leadership of Pastor Cooper.  He even pastored a church of his own in Delray, MI.  Elder G.L Fizer was an activist for his community.  He loved helping people and encouraging the youth.   He enjoyed fishing, fixing lawn mowers and vacuum cleaners, growing crop and farming.  He welcomed the community to his gardens to enjoy the fruit of his labor.  His joy came from seeing and making people laugh and be happy.   He always ministered to everyone about the Lord.  G. L was the founder of the Fizer Singers.  He song with many groups and recording artist.  Just to name a few, The Clark Sisters, Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Fizer Singers from Argo Illinois and RanceAllen. Elder Fizer was a hard-working man.  He had many jobs and skills but mastered all.   He was a Hi-Lo driver at the Plymouth Plant and Trenton Engine where he retired.  He worked at Gravel Pit as a truck driver, a security guard, fire fighter, and bought many houses.  Elder G.L Fizer was an entrepreneur.  He owned a family restaurant and sold Hub Caps.  In the community at the grocery store, they named the fish sale, “Hub Cab George Special.  When he walked into stores he was known as “Hub Cap George”.  He was such a brave man; he ran for president at Trenton Engine.  

 

He met and fell deeply in love with the love of his life Mother Rosa Lee Scruggs who proceeded him in death.  On January 15, 1949 they were joined in holy matrimony in Detroit, MI.  They were married for 66 years.  To this union seven children were born, and four children proceeded him in death. One daughter Rosemary Epps (Fred), three sons Bishop George Fizer Jr. (Elaine), Terry Fizer (Janet), and Larry Fizer. Also, four grandchildren proceeded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters LouBerta Hill (James Ray Sr.) Columbus, GA, Helen Marie Martin (Leon) Canton, MI, Anita Ann Bell (Curtis) Inkster, MI and one daughter in law Wilhelmina Fizer, 33 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren, and 26 great great grandchildren.  He has two God Son’s Daniel and Jeremiah Cross and One bonus son Stanley Johnson.  One brother Elijah Fizer and sister in law Rebecca Fizer, extended family The Benfords, Crumps, Harris and Cross family including a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
