VENICE, Fla. – Elaine Theresa Coen, 87, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at the Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, Fla. after a long illness.She was born on June 25, 1929, to A. Scott and Eva M. (Beaupre) Coen in Franklin. She was the 9th of 10 children. Elaine attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated in the Class of 1948 from Franklin High School in Franklin. She was very active in all of the High School sports where she was Captain of the softball, basketball and field hockey teams. She served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1972 and was stationed stateside as well as overseas and retired as rank of Technical Sergeant. During her stationing in Germany she pitched her Air Force softball team to two world championships.She moved to Sarasota, Fla. in the early 80's to be near her sisters, June and Marion. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, six brothers, J. Scott Coen, Paul C. Coen, A. William Coen, Harry G. Coen, Thomas E. Coen and A. James Coen; and two sisters, Marion Bilodeau and June McKenzie.She is survived by one brother, Kenneth L. Coen of Nokomis Fla. and her nephew and guardian, Michael P. Coen of Venice, Fla., along with many nieces and nephews.Services will be held at a later date at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Franklin.Donations can be made in her honor to the Tidewell Hospice House of Venice, Fla. at tidewellhospice.orgFuneral arrangements by Gulf Coast Cremations.
