Castle, Elaine Emma (nee Bruce)It is with the greatest sorrow and heartache that we announce the passing of our dear mother, wife and grandmother, Elaine Emma Castle, age 71, on December 20th, 2016 at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria. Elaine was born on October 9th, 1945 in Bristol, England. She adventurously moved to Canada with her beloved husband Michael and young family in 1979, settling in Fort Saskatchewan, AB and later retiring to Victoria, BC in 2006. Cherished and deeply loved by her family, she will forever be remembered by her husband of 48 years Michael; daughters and spouses Rosalind (Robbin), Calgary, AB and Naomi (Sarat), Edmonton, AB; and 6 grandsons, Liam, Benjamin, Tristan, Aiden, Kiefer and Isaac. Our mother, with her sunny personality, viewed life with constant optimism. A consummate homemaker, Mum loved to cook and a knitting project was always on the go for someone. She was an avid gardener, with a real green thumb. Whether it be her front and backyard or her balcony, beautiful flowers and plants could always be found. Elaine was kind and thoughtful, always putting her family first. She enjoyed attending book club and yoga, entertaining friends and was a member of the Wedgewood gardening committee. Her two passions were travelling, most recently by cruising, and her grandchildren. She regularly combined the two, scouring far flung ports for the perfect treasure to bring home to each grandson. A special thank you from our family to the nursing staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their compassionate care. In particular, Dr. Walzak, your kindness and compassion will always be remembered. Thank you also to Dr. Allen, Dr. Poonja, Dr. Pai, and Dr. Innes. You were all so committed to her ongoing care and your dedication to each of your patients is inspiring. We are immensely grateful. With respect, a private celebration of her life will be held by the immediate family. Memorial donations, in Elaine's name, may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 6V5.
