Edwin Hugh StilesHowellEdwin Hugh Stiles passed on November 2nd at his home in Howell, Michigan surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on October 21st 1942 in Franklin, NC and moved to Battle Creek, Michigan as a young boy. Hugh was the oldest of six children. His parents Edwin Thomas and Willa Mae Stiles preceded him in death.  He is survived by the love of his life, Susan (Munster) Stiles.  They were married on May 21st 1966 and celebrated their 50th anniversary this past summer. He was a loving husband and father to their three children, Jani (Stiles) Hayden (Tim) South Lyon, MI, Jeff Stiles (Cindy) Battle Creek, MI and Jillane (Stiles) Burkhart (Dan) Durango, CO and eight beloved grandchildren, Carlye & Chloe Hayden, Lindsey & Zachary Stiles, Kane and Brad Kuester and Maddox & Camilla Burkhart. He is also survived by his loving siblings Judy Mervar (Dan), Nancy Allen (Mike), Diane Leatherman (Craig), Dennis Stiles (Kim), and preceded in death Patti Parshall Veazey.  Hugh lived his life for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was the rock of his family and was always a strong, supportive and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle to many nieces and nephews and treasured friends providing encouragement and support.Hugh was a 1962 graduate of Springfield High School and attended Kellogg Community College, Western Michigan and Chicago Technical College.  He was a Private First Class in the U. S. Air National Guard based at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, MI.  He worked as an engineer for Clark Equipment and Clark International in Battle Creek, Clark MI in Benton Harbor and then moved to Chagrin Falls, OH with the merger of Volvo-Michigan-Euclid (VME) in Euclid Ohio as an Engineering Data Control Manager in 1987.  He retired from VME in 1992 after 28 years  He then bought a Dairy Queen franchise in Cuyahoga Falls, OH which he owned for several years before leaving Ohio and to moving to Howell, MI to be closer to his family.All of Hugh's life he enjoyed and excelled playing sports. In the summer of 2014 Hugh he was inducted into the Battle Creek Area Amateur Sports Association and Michigan Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.In his retirement, he enjoyed working at the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians Stadiums and University of Michigan as a Suite Ambassador at the Big House. Hugh also loved the game of golf and volunteered at several PGA tour golf tournaments. Hugh loved to participate or just be a part of any sport. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. Hugh became a WWII history buff after researching information on his WWII POW father.  He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making birdhouses and other wood working projects from an engineer's perspective.Hugh lived life and led his family in faith and the love of family. He will be forever missed but always in our hearts. Until we meet again, your beautiful spirit and love will carry us through.Funeral services to celebrate Hugh's life will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
