FORT WAYNE — Edwin Merle Coburn, 94, formerly of St. Joe, IN, died Friday, September 19, 2014, at Golden Years Assisted Living in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on April 6, 1920, in DeKalb County, IN to the late Floyd J. & Opal Vern (Miller) Coburn. He married Ruth Garnell Keller on June 24, 1944, at Coburn Corners Church of Christ. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2014. Surviving are: a son, Roger (Rhonda) Coburn St. Joe, IN; a daughter, Patricia (James) Platner, St. Joe, IN; 6 grandchildren, Rebecca Bonta, Christine Musselman, Lydia Bender, Jonathan Platner, Rachel Laycock and Caleb Kruger; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nyla Jean Coburn; a daughter, Marcia Kruger; and two granddaughters, Stacey Coburn and Sonya Kruger. Edwin worked 39 years in the Specialty Motors Lab at General Electric and was a member of the Coburn Corners Church of Christ. He loved restoring vehicles including a 1927 Franklin Car and a 1936 Silver King Tractor. He also enjoyed music, especially playing his violin and dulcimers; loved to tinker and spend time in the shop. Calling will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, from 10-11:30 a.m. at Coburn Corners Church of Christ, 6813 C.R. 64, St. Joe, IN. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at the church with James C. Platner, his son-in-law officiating. Burial will take place in Alton Cemetery, St. Joe, IN.
