JACKSON CENTER — Edward Casper York Sr., 92, of Jackson Center, passed away at 11:38 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1923, in Darke County, Ohio, the son of Joseph Leo and Mamie Susan (Hamp) York. On May 16, 1945 he married Anna Genevieve Allen, who preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2016.
Edward is survived by seven children, Edward (Janice) York, Jr., Nicholas (LuAnn) York, both of Jackson Center, Delores (Gary) Barhorst of Carthage, Missouri, Ralph (Judy) York of Lone Grove, Oklahoma, Jean York, JoAnn (Jim) Blystone, both of Jackson Center, and Marlene (Tim) Ritter of LaVista, Nebraska; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Earnest and Joseph York; two brothers; and four sisters.
Mr. York was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII in the South Pacific from 1942-45, and of the U.S. Army, serving from 1952-53. He worked for Airstream as a Machinist. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Jackson Center. Edward enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and going on road trips. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Montra, Ohio. Burial with full military honors provided by the Jackson Center American Legion Post #493 will follow at Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, on Monday, from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:15 a.m. until the time of service.
