Edward A. Starzec Sr., 83, of Montrose, passed peacefully away on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, with his family by his side. His was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Kate (Organisciak) Starzec in 2004, and daughter Mary Ann in1962. He was born on July 6, 1930 on the farm in Montrose; where he lived his whole life; the son of the late George and Mary (Brudz) Starzec. Surviving are his four sons and spouses, Edward A. Jr. and Jean Starzec, Tunkhannock, John and Jennifer Starzec, Monroe, N.Y., George P. Starzec, Montrose, Joseph and April Starzec, Montrose, ; eight grandchildren, Michael Starzec, Kate (David) Burke, Sarah Starzec, Michael Cabrera, Haley Starzec, Colby, Joshua, and Melvin Starzec; brother and sister-in-law, John and Pat Starzec, Painted Post, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Kate Yachymiak, Nellie Olzewski, Sophie Starzec, and Helen Carlsen; and a brother, Frank Starzec. A lifelong dairy farmer, and recipient of Dairy of Distinction in 1995; he was well known throughout the community for his never ending good nature and his abundant generosity. In addition to being a proud steward of the land he loved; he was a lifelong member of the Holy Name of Mary Parish in Montrose, and was very active in the Parish Community. His proudest accomplishment, however, was his family whom he loved dearly. They came before anything else in his life.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Holy Name of Mary Church, with Rev. Phillip Ryappan, officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Name of Mary Cemetery. Visitations were held Tuesday evening at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home.Donations in Ed's name can be made to the Holy Name of Mary Church, Endless Mountains Health Systems, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
