EDUARDO TORRES HILARIO, MD 1936 - 2016Norwich- Eduardo Torres Hilario, MD, age 80 of Norwich, passed away at William W. Backus hospital in Norwich on December 12, 2016. Dr. Hilario was born on February 13, 1936 in Davao City, Philippines, and was the second of five sons born to the late Arsenio and Esperanza (Torres) Hilario. He spent his childhood and early adult life in the Philippines and earned a Medical Degree from the University of the East, Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. Soon after, he immigrated to the United States to embark on a career in medicine. He settled down in Connecticut where he met his wife Agnes Proulx, and they built a life together.Dr. Hilario practiced medicine for more than forty years, the majority of his career spent at Uncas on Thames Hospital in Norwich and then his own practice at Jewett City Medical Center. Affectionately referred to as "Doc" by friends and family, he was an extremely devoted family man, who took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Growing up he played many sports including basketball, boxing and tennis, but developed his strongest passion for golf. For much of his life he was an avid golfer who was always eager to share with others his knowledge and love of the game.He was a kind, gentle soul and a truly unique individual. He devoted most of his life to helping others and anyone who ever spent any time with him can attest that he was an unforgettable character. He was never the biggest man in the room, but he was a giant to those who had the privilege of knowing him intimately. His wisdom, humor, strength, and love will be greatly missed by many. Eduardo is survived by a son Mario Hilario and his partner Glen Badessa of Cranston, RI, a son Marcus Hilario and his wife Vicktrie of Voluntown, a son Edward Hilario of Norwich, a son Shawn Hilario and his wife Helena of West Hartford and a daughter Michelle Hilario and her fiancé Sean Mahoney of Tiverton, RI. He also leaves behind grandchildren Isaac Tucker, Raymond Hilario, Samuel Hilario, Charles Hilario and Gabriel Hilario as well as brothers, Rodolfo Hilario of the Philippines, Arsenio Hilario Jr. and his wife Elda of Las Vegas, NV and Euholio Hilario and his wife Bernadette of California and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Agnes Hilario and a brother Jose Hilario.Family and friends may visit Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date.
