This obituary is administered by:

EAST BEND — Mr. Edgar Vernon Wooten, 84, of Forbush Road, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. He was born on Oct. 4, 1929, in Yadkin County to the late Edgar and Myrtle H. Wooten. He graduated from East Bend High School in 1948. Mr. Wooten grew up working on the family farm where he enjoyed tilling the land, watching the crops grow and spending time at "The Creek." Along with his love for farming, he was a rural mail carrier out of the East Bend Post Office for 20 years. Mr. Wooten enjoyed the many people he met delivering the mail in Yadkin and Surry counties. Mr. Wooten was a lifelong and faithful member of Forbush Friends Meeting, where he attended as long as his health permitted. He served as a Sunday school teacher, elder, member of the Cemetery Committee and sang in the choir. He was a charter member of the Fall Creek Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as president and on the Board of Directors. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty H. Wooten, with whom they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on March 2. Also surviving are their daughter, Dianne Shore and husband, Ray; two brothers, Edsel Wooten and Allen (Peggy) Wooten, all of East Bend; three sisters, Ethel Griffin, Cora Hutchens, Barbara (Frank) Gentry of Yadkinville; and lots of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wooten was also preceded in death by his son, Gary in April 2012; daughter-in-law, Kathy in May 2013; brothers, Benbow Wooten and Ralph Wooten; and sisters, Gypsy Fulp, Lillian Phillips and Vicy Key. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forbush Friends Meeting by the Rev. Michael Thames and the Rev. Jake Penley. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center of Forbush Friends Meeting, c/o Mary Wooten, 2821 Mill Hill Road, East Bend, NC 27018. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to their extended family, church family and friends for all their love and support for Mr. Wooten. The family would also like to express its gratitude to Dr. Jerry T. Ziglar and the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center for all the loving care given to Mr. Wooten.
