Earl R. Lawrence, age 87, of Castle Rock, CO, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. He was born on September 21, 1929 in Denver, CO the son of Richard James Lawrence and Marie Elizabeth Smith Lawrence. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Hadley her husband Jim, and daughters Carrie and Molly. Son, Richard Lawrence his wife Polly and children Anne and Scott. Son, William Lawrence his wife Christine and sons Matthew and Thomas. Twin sister Leona Marie Heilman, her husband Donald their son Alan. Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Lawrence in 2013. Earl had a love of life that was apparent to anyone who met him. He and his wife, Betty Jo, met in grade school and were married for 61 years before her passing in 2013. Earl was the 3rd generation to own and operate Lawrence Construction where he served as President from 1972 - 1995. There are very few roadways or bridges in Colorado that he didn't have a hand in building. The company was family owned, and Earl felt that every employee was a family member. Earl served as the President of the Colorado Contractors Association from 1983-1984 and was voted Contractor of the Year by his peers in 1984. He loved spending time at the family fishing cabin with a fly rod in his hand. He couldn't sit still and was always finding projects at the cabin or around his house. He found new joy in hand crafting model construction equipment in his wood shop after he retired from Lawrence Construction and his handiwork is a prized possession to those he gave his models to. He loved being a member of the El Jebel Shrine, supporting the and bringing the whole family for the annual Shrine Circus. He carried on the Clambake Club tradition started by his father and faithfully greeted members every year with a smile and a beer. Earl didn't know a stranger - once you met him, you were a friend for life. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the First UMC, 1200 South St, Castle Rock, CO 80104. Private Family Graveside Services will be held in Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery.
