DAVIDSON — Dorothy Mackie Banks Miller, 97, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, in the Health Center at The Pines at Davidson. She was born on Sept. 21, 1919, in Yadkinville to William Luther Mackie and Eula Williams Mackie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, William Anderson Banks during WWII; just recently by second husband, Charles W. Miller; and by brothers, Marshall, John D., Arthur, and Sam; and sisters, Mary Ruth and Martha. Mrs. Miller was a graduate of Yadkinville High School and attended King's Business College in Charlotte. Most of her working years were as a secretary, administrative assistant and bookkeeper. She loved being a homemaker as well. She was an active volunteer in the churches that she belonged to: Takoma Park Baptist and Montgomery Hills Baptist in Maryland, Providence Baptist in Charlotte and Davidson College Presbyterian in Davidson. She was also an active member of Eastern Star Chapter No. OES #66 in Silver Spring, Maryland. She loved to volunteer at her daughter's elementary school in Silver Spring as well. She is survived by her daughter, Janet M. Rowland and husband Larry; grandson, Kemp Rowland; granddaughter, Amy Rowland; great-granddaughter, Emma Grace; sisters-in-law, Anne Mackie and Joan Mackie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom, "Grandma," "Aunt Dorothy," we are going to miss you so much. We have such great memories of all the wonderful meals you cooked and the cookies and candy that you made and the time that you spent with each of us. We so appreciate all the family reunions that you and your sister Martha planned. We know that family was so important to you and will always remember how much you loved all of us and how you took such great care to keep the extended family together after your parents passed away. We will miss your outgoing personality and your loving smile. The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct.r 30, 2016, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at Davidson College Presbyterian Church, Davidson. Burial will follow at Harmony Grove Friends Church cemetery in Yadkinville.
