Dorothy Jones, age 85, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on January 1st. Dorothy had fought cancer with bravery and grace for almost eight years with so much success.
Born in Wilmington, the youngest of Joe and Agnes Williams and sister to Beverly; Dorothy decided to move to Florida to acquire a degree in teaching from Bethune-Cookman University. Dorothy succeeded and had become an elementary school teacher in the late '50s and did charity work throughout the years. While at Bethune Dorothy encountered her soon to be husband, Dr. Roosevelt Jones. Soon after graduating, the couple rejoiced in the birth of their son Michael.
Dorothy was known for being a proper lady, always greeted people with a smile and open heart. Her devotion to family represented a significant part of her identity. There was nothing better than family gatherings, she loved them all. She will be missed by many friends but most of all by her family. Dorothy's legacy is survived by her son Michael and her five amazing grandchildren.
