Dorothy Jean WalkerABILENE, TXDorothy Jean Walker, 87, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016. There will be a memorial service at Elmwood Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 4:00 PM.Jean was born on January 3, 1929 in Idalou, Texas. Her father was a dedicated Church of Christ minister and her indomitable faith was instilled at a very early age. She dedicated herself to the work of the Lord all of her life. She was born during the depression and supported her entire family, even as a teenager, while her father preached around the county at small churches. She continued to support her parents for the rest of their lives. On May 30, 1956, she married the love of her life, Robert Wayne Walker and they were married for 58 years before he went to meet his Lord on October 28th, 2014. Jean and her family lived in Wiesbaden Germany for four years from 1969 to 1973 and she took every opportunity to travel the world while her husband was stationed there. Her children also had the wonderful experience of traveling extensively and consider the time spent in Germany to be some of the most rewarding years of their lives. In fact, she and her daughters just returned from a trip back to Germany after 43 years in September 2016 and, yes, they still had trouble keeping up with her.Jean sold real estate in Abilene, Texas for over 40 years, first with Senter Realtors and then with Remax of Abilene. Even at 87 years old, she was still actively buying, selling and remodeling real estate with passion and finesse right up to the day she left this earth in "mid-stride" (as we always knew she would). Many customers became life-long friends because she genuinely cared about people and strived to help all those she could. She attended Southern Hills Church of Christ, Grape Street Church of Christ and, most recently, Baker Heights Church of Christ. Jean touched uncountable lives during her time on earth with her compassion, loyalty, sense of humor, unstoppable optimism, and inexhaustible energy. She always had a laugh on her lips and a twinkle in her eye. She was simply the most amazing person her family, and many others, have ever known. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Hall and her husband, David Hall; her daughter Elizabeth Ann Southerland and her husband, Robert Southerland and her son David Wayne Walker. She had six grandchildren; Sophia Allamly, Chris Putnam, Jason Stokes, Aimee Hall, David Walker and Daniel Southerland and six great grandchildren: Joshua, Gabriel and Christian Stokes, Leighton and Paige Putnam and Nathaniel Hall. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Kilbourne Walker in 1980 and her husband, Robert Wayne Walker in 2014.Goodbye dear, sweet Mom. We love you with all of our hearts! We will never be the same until we see you again in Heaven. Until then, we will shed many Heavenly Angel Tears. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Proverbs 31:28-29
