Dorothy HarmonMadridDorothy Harmon, 95, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Madrid Home. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 13 at the Madrid Home Sanborn Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow the service with burial at the Polk City Cemetery at a later date.Dorothy was born on the family farm near Huxley on August 11, 1921 to T. O. and Bertha Thompson. She married Donald Harmon on October 21, 1939, and they farmed and raised their family in the Polk City/Huxley area. In retirement, Don and Dorothy sold the farm and moved to Polk City in 1983. They frequently traveled to Texas and Branson, MO and enjoyed spending time at the Polk City Senior Center. Dorothy liked baking, doll collecting, making crafts and camping with her family. She is survived and lovingly remembered by three sons, Carl (Bevra) Harmon of West Des Moines, Gary (Lois) Harmon of Polk City and Steven (Vicki) Harmon of Alleman, IA; sister, Alma Wideen of Westland, MI; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great great grandson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Don and nine siblings.Memorial contributions may be directed to the Madrid Home.
