Donalene Lou (Schambers) Hopper1936-2016Donalene Lou (Schambers) Hopper, 80, died peacefully surrounded by family on September 15, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Donna was born on March 5, 1936 in Midland Michigan, the eldest child of Ann Francis Eskra and Louis Donald Schambers. She graduated from Midland High School in 1954. On October 2, 1954, she married Cameron Alden Hopper, also from Midland, and the adventure began. Donna and Cam had four children, Cameron Michael (born in Hancock, Michigan), Debrah Lee (born in Bay City, Michigan), Steven Gregory (born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi), and Pamella Ann (born in Harvey, Illinois). Donna and Cam lived in ten states during their 58-year marriage, driven by Cam's passion for geological engineering. In 1977, the family settled in Houston, Texas to start the family business, H&H Sales, Inc. Donna served as Chairman of the Board of H&H from 1979 until 2012, when she became President of the company upon the death of Cam, which she remained until her death.Donna lived for family and was the quintessential matriarch. Donna invited family, friends, various dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbils, and hamsters into each of her homes, wherever the family lived. When she wasn't rearing her children, pets, and husband, she enjoyed sailing, fishing, scuba diving, birding, gardening, cooking, drawing, tole painting, gambling (slot machines were her favorite), reading, and decorating. Donna, an avid metal detectorist, served as Treasurer of the Montgomery County Artifacts Club for twenty years. Donna and Cam loved the water, and spent their leisure time at the family cabin on Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada and their beach house on Galveston Island, Texas.Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cameron Alden Hopper, and sons, Cameron Michael Hopper and Steven Gregory Hopper. Donna is survived by her beloved daughters, Debrah Lee Shepard of Houston and Pamella Ann Hopper of Austin; grandchildren, Risa Renna of Dallas, Rachel Reyna of Conroe, Cameron Douglas Hopper of Houston, Phillip Hopper of Houston, Christopher Hopper of Houston, and Angela Hopper of Austin; great grandchildren, Elliott Leigh Renna, Rafe Nicholas Renna, and Isabella Lee Reyna; and brothers Larry Schambers of Rescue, California and Ardon Schambers of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Donna is also survived by her beloved cat Spotty.A memorial service will be held on October 1, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Mary Chapel at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 19222 Tomball Pkwy., Houston.
