BURLINGTON - Donald W. Schmidt, age 94 of Burlington (Wheatland), WI, died May 29, 2016 at Hospice Alliance in Pleasant Prairie. He was born on March 1, 1922 in Elkhorn, WI., the son of the late Otto and Ida Schmidt. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Tenhagen on Sept. 27, 1944 for 57 years until she preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 2002. Don (Smitty) was a highly skilled heavy equipment operator, both as self-employed owner and as an employee of several excavating contractors. Smittys incredible mechanical skills allowed him to mend or repair many things for family, neighbors and friends. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Twin Lakes. Donald enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His gift to tease always brought them back for more. He and Kate enjoyed traveling and camping in their RV. His love for auctions kept the family guessing what to expect next. Donald is survived by his five children: Donald (Sharon) Schmidt of Scott Depot, West Virginia, Linda (Ronald) Jinkins of Walworth, WI, June (Mel) Rasch of Twin Lakes, WI, Dianne (Joseph) Funk of Union Grove, WI, Daniel Schmidt of Adams, WI; 9 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sister Marlene Pruessing and son-in-law Melvin Rasch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 4, 2016 at 11:00AM at St. Johns Catholic Church, 701 N. Lake Ave., Twin Lakes, WI. The family will receive friends on Friday June 3, 2016 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home, 620 Legion Drive, Twin Lakes, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donalds name may be made to Hospice Alliance 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd., Pleasant Prairie, WI. The family expresses their deepest appreciation for the kind and loving care given to Dad by his caregiver, Sue. The family also gives a huge thank you for the compassionate care given to their father by the staff of Hospice Alliance, especially Pat, his weekly visiting nurse.
