Donald T. Martin INDEPENDENCE,IA – Donald T. Martin, 85, of Independence, Iowa died Monday, August 12, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa. Don was born on January 12, 1928 in Brighton, WI., the son of Edward and Lucille (David) Martin, He received his education in the Brigton/Rochester Schools, and he began working for Murphy Products in Burlington, WI, where he met and later married Dorothy A. Henningfeld on June 18, 1949. In 1963 the family moved to Sioux City, IA., where Don was a manager for Murphy Products, and in 1975 the family moved to Independence, Iowa where Don managed the Walnut Grove Feed Company until his retirement in 1992. Don was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, The St. Pius Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by four children; Kathy (Bill) Thomas, Sioux City, IA., Tom (LaRae) Luettgen, Coweta, OK., Dianna (Mike) Skuya, Goddard, KS., and Laurie (Ernie Wevik, Jr.) Thedens, Rowley, IA., eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, seven brothers; Jack Martin, Waterford, WI., Dick Martin, Elkhorn, WI., Bill Martin, Williams Bay, WI., David Martin, Jerry Martin, Tom Martin, and Jim Martin all of Burlington, WI., and four sisters; Mary Uhlenhake, Waterford, WI., Lette Umnus, Burlington, WI., Lois Spiegelhoff, Kenosha, WI., and Jean Kirkoff, Burlington, WI. and a special friend Lillian Greiner, Independence, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorie Martin in 2009, and two son-in-laws; Russ Wubben and Kendall Thedens. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, Iowa with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday and from 12 Noon till 1 PM Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 3 P.M. Thursday and a parish vigil service will be held at 7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
