Donald O. ShafferNASHPORT: A funeral service for Donald O. Shaffer, 78, of Nashport will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hanover Cemetery. Mr. Shaffer passed away on May 26, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Center under the care of Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born on January 18, 1936 to the late Andrew J. and Hailey (Marsh) Shaffer in Muskingum County.He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty L. (Miller) Shaffer; children, Donna (Rod) Biggs, Randy (Becky) Shaffer, Greg (Kitty) Shaffer and Melanie (Rich) Antle; grandchildren, Dr. Ariel (Julian Ybarra) Biggs, Dr. Austin Biggs, Wendy (Steve) Bice, Gretchin Mallett, Jacob (Amanda) Richards, Gregory (Ashley) Shaffer, Ryan and Kacie Antle, Andrew (Savana) Garette and Shawn (Lindsey) Garette; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Marlene) Shaffer; sisters, Velma (Eddy) Toole, Helen Turner, Audrey (Jerry) Smith and Frieda Sentivany.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Edna Shaffer; brothers, Dorsey, Gerald, Robert, Harold, Kenneth and Ralph Shaffer.Mr. Shaffer retired from Owens Corning after 40 years as a group leader. After retiring he worked at Apple Tree Auctions. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work and spending time with his family and friends. He loved traveling with Betty, especially to Florida, the Smokey Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway.The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 5-8 PM at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, OH.
