Dominic A. (Poppy) VastanoDominic A. (Poppy) Vastano, 96, of Englewood Cliffs, NJ,. passed away peacefully Easter Sunday morning. Dominic was born on May 10, 1920 the youngest of 13 children, in Cliffside Park, N.J. Dominic was always working, at a young age at a candy manufacturer and then as the owner of his own painting contracting business. He always had a project. If he wasn't working on one in Englewood Cliffs he could be found in the yard at the shore home in Belmar. His green lawn and thriving gardens were the talk of the neighborhood. Upon retiring, he became passionate about cooking and would see a dish prepared that was of interest and put his own twist to it. He was most famous for his pizza which was introduced to the world during P Week at Bryan School Kindergarten in Cresskill and he always had his German Shepherd close by. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Amelia (nee Maiello), his children Mariann and husband Daniel of Emerson, NJ, and Frank and his wife Lori of Demarest, NJ, his grandchildren Nicole Stuto and husband Joseph, Frank Vastano Jr. and wife Katrina, Vanessa DeFeis and husband Michael, James Vastano and George Vastano and great -granddaughter Mila DeFeis. Dominic is also survived by his beloved German Shepherd Bella, and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Dominic's caregivers Alida, Yossi and Lourdes. A celebration of Dominic's life will continue with a viewing this Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 4-8 PM at A.K. Macagna Funeral Home 495 Anderson Avenue Cliffside Park, NJ.
