Dennis Lewis WightJanuary 12, 1919 - July 12, 2013Dennis Lewis Wight, MD (94) our beloved husband, father and grandfather returned to his Father in Heaven peacefully, amongst his family, on July 12, 2013.Dennis was born on January 12, 1919 in Thatcher Utah to Lewis Sylvester Wight Jr. and Ruby Juanita Adams. He grew up in Brigham City, Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1937, where he was the drum major for the marching band.Dennis attended the University of Idaho, Southern Branch for 2 years before leaving to serve a mission in the New England States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1939 to 1941, where at one point he managed The Joseph Smith Farm in Vermont. After returning from his mission Denny met, courted and married his sweetheart, Renee Olson, on September 10, 1942 in the Logan LDS temple.After graduating from Idaho State College with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1943 and from Medical School at Case Western Reserve University in 1948, Denny went on to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his medical residency in 1951 at Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital in Ogden, Utah.Denny and Renee were the proud and loving parents of two children, Kay Lynne Morgan, born in 1952, and D Russell Wight born in 1953.From 1952 to 1954 Denny initially served as a 1st Lieutenant and then Captain in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kansas. He then established his obstetrics and gynecology practice in Pocatello, Idaho, where he practiced for over 25 years and delivered more than 8,000 babies. For a number of years during his career he served as a team doctor for the Idaho State University Athletics Department. In addition, he served as president of the Bannock Memorial Hospital medical staff.Tragically, after a long battle with diabetes, Denny's wife Renee passed away on Easter morning in 1982 and was laid to rest in the Downey, Idaho cemetery. On August 6, 1983, Denny married his beloved wife Lorraine Peterson, who for nearly 30 years has been his closest companion and best friend.Denny loved his family deeply and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Through his example and deeds he taught the value of complete honesty, education, hard work and sincere love for others.Denny had many passions including, fishing, hunting, woodwork, photography, boating, music, and reading. He and his family spent their summers enjoying these activities with him at the family home in Flathead Lake, Montana.He is survived by his wife Lorraine, son D Russell Wight (Salt Lake City, UT), daughter Kay Lynne Morgan (Salt Lake City, UT), stepchildren Bart Green (Boise, ID) and Nancy Alford (Philadelphia, PA), brothers Lee Wight (Bigfork, MT) and Jay Wight (Northridge, CA), sister Charlene Sorenson (Chino Hills, CA), 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.We love you Grandpa and will miss your love, advice, example and humor. May you rest in peace until we meet again. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Princeton L.D.S. Ward Chapel. 42 Princeton, Pocatello.
