Deanna Marie Sampson, 73, passed away at Yuma Regional Medical Center on September 24, 2015 after suffering from a long illness. She went to meet her Savior in the loving embrace of her husband of 52 years, Dave Sampson, her daughter Michelle Vielbig, and her Son in Law, Joseph Vielbig. She was also surrounded by many loving friends during her passing. Deanna was born on October 10, 1942 in St. Louis Missouri to Glenda and Dennis Leitterman. She is the second of four children. Gloria her oldest sister lives in Springfield, Missouri as well as her youngest sister, Kay Mason. Dennis Leitterman, her younger brother currently resides in Sunnyvale, California. Deanna was a graduate of Arizona State University where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics Vocational Education. She later received a Masters in Teaching from the University of Arizona. Her profession was teaching. She began teaching Home Economics at Sacaton Public Schools. Here she taught Native American Middle School students. Later, when the family moved to Yuma, Arizona, Deanna taught Foods and Home Economics Related Occupations at Yuma High School from 1976-1997. She was beloved by her students and the staff during her 30 year tenure at YHS. She loved and assisted many students on becoming successful young men and women. Teaching was a passion for Deanna and she loved her years at Yuma High School. Deanna was also tremendously involved in Yuma County 4-H from 1976-1987. She supported her daughter's many projects through being a 4-H Project leader. Then, she branched out and began volunteering for county wide programs. During this time period she served as the Superintendent of the Home Economics building and served as President of the Yuma County 4-H Leaders Board. Deanna continued her support of 4-H in assisting her grandchildren Kelsie Grimsley, and David Vielbig with their 4-H projects and assisting with the county 4-H BBQ until the last few years of her life. Until her illness, Deanna was also involved in the Yuma County Relay for Life and as a Eucharistic minister at IC church. Family was the most important thing to Deanna and she is also survived by her oldest son Keith Sampson, his wife Tammy, and grandson Matthew of Arlington Texas.A wake will held on October 16, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday October 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. Graveside interment of cremated remains to follow at Desert Lawn with a reception at the IC Fellowship hall. Donations in her name can be made at:Saint Vincent DePaul505 S.
