David W. Marthaler, age 52, of AuGres died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City. Mr. Marthaler was born on March 11, 1957, in Royal Oak to William and Lois (nee Perry) Marthaler. He married Debra (nee Johnson) Marthaler and together the couple raised five sons, David (Fina) Marthaler, Daniel (Kerry) Marthaler, Daren Marthaler, Dillon (Lindsay) Marthaler and Darrick Marthaler. Mr. Marthaler was most recently employed as director of transportation at Arenac Opportunities, but during his lifetime he was also a farmer in addition to being an engineer and supervisor at CMI in AuGres. He loved restoring antique cars, boats and tractors and engineered several patents. Mr. Marthaler was very active in his church, Full Gospel Lighthouse Church, serving as president of Kingsmen and deacon on the church board. He also participated in the building of the church's addition in 2003-04. His giving nature also led him to public service as trustee of the Sims Township Board and as a member of the Bay-Arenac Rotary Club. Besides his wife and children, Mr. Marthaler is survived by sisters, Holly (Larry) Clark and Valerie (Jim Litwin) Marthaler; brother, Lance (Jan) Marthaler; grandchildren, Landyn, Landish, Alina, Emily, Lily, David, Layla, Aiden and Paisley; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family members. Services for Mr. Marthaler were held Saturday, Nov. 7, at Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in AuGres with Pastor Richard Moore officiating. Interment was in West Burlington Cemetery in Clifford. Memorials are suggested to the family. Arrangements were handled by C.L. Forshee and Sons Funeral Homes, Inc., in AuGres.
