February 28, 1942 - November 20, 2016David McArther Pennington, age 74, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 20th, 2016. He was surrounded by family in his home in Bakersfield, CA. David was born on February 28th, 1942 in Boise, ID to Austin Lewis Pennington and Velma Elaine (Keller) Pennington. David learned the value of hard work from a young age growing up on a dairy farm with his 9 brothers and sisters. On December 20, 1959, he married Vicky Carolyn Rooke and together they had three children. In 1970, David committed his life to the Lord and for the remainder of his years, lived his life according the Bible and is responsible for many others who have committed themselves to the Lord. He and Vicky could be found each morning, sitting in their respective recliner and rocking chair reading their Bible and devotionals before they began their day.In 1959, David attended the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana and went on to become a second generation auctioneer after his father, Austin Pennington, and his legacy continues to be carried on through his son and grandson. After the unexpected death of his father in 1963, David ran the Auction Yard (family business) along with his brothers and sisters for five years, and would later open The Auction Yard Café with his wife, a successful business of 20 years. David was preceded in death by his father and mother, Austin and Velma (Keller) Pennington and three siblings, Beverly Okamoto, Eugene Pennington and JoAnne Burkhart.David is survived by his beloved wife, Vicky; his three children: James (Amy), Teri (Rod), Tina (Mike); six brothers and sisters: Joyce, Linda (Dex), Gary (Nancy), Wilma (John), Carol and William (Becky); 10 grandchildren: Tanya (Brett), Austin (Jessica), David (Katherine), Kelissa (Dana), Stephanie, Scott (Susie), Mikel (Emma), Julie, Rachael (David) and Jennifer (Brent); 11 great-grandchildren and two on the way: Trevor, Natalie, Aaron, Maya, Ella, Allie, Audrey, Reagan, Treyton, Carsen and Hudson.Services will be held on Friday, December 2nd at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93313. The service will be officiated by David's grandson, David Pennington, who was named after him. Following the service, the family welcomes you to his Celebration of Life reception at WSM Auctions, a place where David spent nearly every Wednesday since moving to Bakersfield, watching his son and grandson carry on his auctioneering legacy, 2701 Auto Mall Drive, Bakersfield, CA.
