David Allen Jester79, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 22, 2016 after losing his brave battle with lung cancer.  Dave was born on August 23, 1937 to Marjorie Ruth and Everett Jester. He is survived by his siblings, Judy (Russell) Jordan, of Sarasota, FL and Michael Jester of Murphy, NC; along with many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Jester who resided in Sarasota, FL. He is also lovingly survived by his wife of 23 years and step-mother to his children, Diana Jester; daughters, Beth (James) McCoy of Lawrenceville, GA, Amy (Kevin) Murphy of Noblesville, IN and son, Phillip Jester of Dallas, TX; and former spouse of 28 years and mother of his children, Barbara Shortridge Cooper of Indianapolis. Dave also leaves his grandchildren, Matthew (Kaylie) McCoy, Alison and Abigale McCoy all of Lawrenceville, GA, John David and Molly Murphy of Noblesville, IN, Simon Jester of Austin, TX; and great-granddaughter, Tinlee Grace McCoy.Dave was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, graduating from Thomas Carr Howe High School, class of 1955. He was also a graduate of I.U. Business School and I.U. Law School. Dave was admitted to the Indianapolis Bar Association in 1966 and joined Bulen and Caster Law Firm of Indianapolis. He was appointed judge for the city of Speedway, IN in 1968, followed by a full-time bench appointment in 1977. Dave developed the first nationwide environmental court under Mayor William Hudnut's administration and served 33 years with the Marion County Municipal and Civil Courts, retiring in January of 2000. He was awarded Counsel of the Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Frank O'Bannon in 2000.Dave enjoyed varied interests including Eagle Scout Master with his son, Phillip; and also flying, woodworking, gun clubs, airplanes, vintage car and military vehicle restoration.  He was a devoted volunteer, Board Member and in 2005, Chairman of the Indianapolis Airshow at Mt. Comfort Airport, benefitting Riley Children's Hospital. It was there Dave developed a fondness for the many wonderful founders, friends and volunteers he met. His family wishes to convey sincere appreciation to Dr. Ruemu Birhiray with St. Vincent's Oncology Center and the St. Vincent's Home Hospice Caregivers.Contributions are encouraged to Riley Children's Hospital Foundation in Judge Jester's memory.
