David A. Ingram, 69, of Juneau, and formerly of Eagle Grove, Iowa passed away on January 17, 2012, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa. Per Dave's wishes, his body has been cremated and his remains will be brought to Juneau for services this summer at a date to be announced.David fought his battle with cancer the way he lived his life – with courage, dignity, honor, integrity, compassion and humor.Dave was born on October 19, 1942, at the Ringling Brothers Hospital in Baraboo, Wisconsin, the first of four children, to Lonney and Mildred (Challand) Ingram. While at Eagle Grove High School, he was an outstanding student, star athlete, and was named National "Mr. FBLA" for 1961, the year he graduated.Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, tending missile silos in Arkansas from 1962 to 1966. While in the service he attended night school at Arkansas Polytechnic, earning degrees in Political Science and English, graduating with a 3.95 GPA for four years. He then attended law school at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, Iowa, graduating with honors in 1969.Dave's law career initially took him overseas during the period 1969 – 1976, first with a firm in Germany and later with his own law firm in Vietnam, Japan, and Korea. Most of his firm's work initially was providing civilian defense counsel in military courts. Dave set a high standard for other members of the firm and he was very well respected by the military judiciary, especially in Vietnam where the firm handled hundreds of cases. His main expertise was as lead trial attorney defending American servicemen and women and representing U.S. civilians before federal administrative agencies.Dave moved to Juneau in 1977 and began a 30-year career as an Administrative Law Judge for Alaska's Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission, retiring in 2007. Dave was an active member of the Executive committee of the Administrative Law Section of the Alaska Bar from 1985 (Chair 1987-1994) and was a member of the CLE Committee since 1991 (Chair 1987-2000). Dave taught law classes at the University of Alaska Southeast for 20 years as well as numerous courses at the local prison. He also taught law courses at the University of Saigon (1971), and at Yukon College in Whitehorse, Yukon (1993).Dave lived adjacent to Auke Lake and brought a great deal of joy and pleasure to his neighbors, local travelers and tourists with his theatrical team of yard Flamingoes. The past three winters he traveled the lower 48 states visiting old friend and seeing all this great country has to offer. Dave was also a world traveler, an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan, and a lover of dogs. He was generous to a fault to his family and friends, giving freely of his time, knowledge, wit, and money. He never met a stranger.Left to cherish his memory are brother, Steve and wife, Joan, of Eagle Grove; sister, Ann Lewis of Storm Lake; nephew Skyler Ingram of Iowa City; niece Amanda Lewis of Spencer, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his little cocker spaniel, "Buddy".Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond; nephew, Lonney Ingram; and first cousins, Jimmy Carlson and Dick Challand.Rest in peace, brother Dave, until we meet again. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to your local animal shelter. Cards may be sent to his siblings Ann Lewis at 504 Early St., Storm Lake, Iowa 50588 and Steve Ingram at 104 North Wright Ave., Eagle Grove, Iowa 50533.
