HIX, Darrell MR. DARRELL LEIGH HIX Mr. Darrell Leigh Hix, of Atlanta, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017. He was born November 1, 1957 in Shelbyville, TN to the late Everett Parker and Gertrude Glascock Hix. Mr. Hix was preceded in death by wife, Rita Lynn Woods Hix.
After graduating from Central High School and attending Southern Mississippi University, he served in the U.S. Army with the 31st "Dixie" Division. Mr. Hix then graduated from Western Kentucky. Upon graduation, Mr. Hix began a very successful career in the surety bond business. He was Bond Manager for Aetna Casualty and Surety Company before joining S. Hammond Story Agency, a subsidiary of Alexander and Alexander. Mr. Hix served as Executive Vice President for Alexander and Alexander and President of S. Hammond Story Agency for 25 years. He was instrumental in the surety bonding of many major highway and construction projects. Mr. Hix then went on to join his son, W. Parker Hix, as a Surety Consultant with Allied North America. He was active in the Georgia Highway Contractors Association and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers.
Mr. HIx is survived by his wife, Charlene Hix, of Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Parker and Cheryl Hix, of Atlanta; daughter Cynthia Hix Kenimer, of Watkinsville; step-children, William Bruwer, Karen Brewer, and Jennifer Mikucki; and grandchildren, Will and Avery Kenimer, Preston, Caroline, Grayson, and Olivia Hix; along with step-grandchildren Scott, Eric. and Anna Brewer; Lauren Mikucki; and Caroline and Elizabeth Bruwer.
Mr. Hix was a member of Wieuca Baptist Church for over 30 years, before joining Second Ponce De Leon Baptist Church. He was a long-standing member of Cherokee Town and Country Club, as well as a member of the Atlanta Civil War Roundtable. Mr. Hix was an avid Georgia Football fan but is best remembered as a very down-to-earth person who was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
A memorial service for Mr. Hix will be held Monday, November 27, 2017, at 3:00 PM at Second Ponce De Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30305, with Dr. David Sapp officiating. The family will receive friends at the church 1 1/2 hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation, 2951 Flowers Road South, Atlanta, Georgia, 30341.
