Darcus Hatch Olsen1933 ~ 2013Darcus Hatch Olsen beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother returned to her Heavenly Father on Oct. 5, 2013. She was born on Oct. 30, 1933 in Cove, Utah to Pearl Sharp and Joseph Lorenzo Hatch. She spent most of her young life near Cove with her family and relatives from Franklin and Preston Idaho. She grew up with 7 brothers and 1 sister. She and Dan Reed Olsen were married in the Logan Temple on June 11, 1952. After an initial start in Idaho Falls, they moved to the Central Valley of California where they raised 5 children (Dan, Janet, Eric, David and Kent).After the gospel of Jesus Christ and her family, her great love was music. For most of her adult life she taught piano to numerous students as well as her family. She was always serving multiple musical roles in the church. In the small wards and branches of California she was frequently the only pianist or organist until her children were old enough to help.After retirement she and Dan served a full-time mission in Nauvoo. She helped in the organization and performance of many of the musical presentations. It was there that she noticed that she was losing control of her hands. After moving to St. George, Utah County and finally Riverton, Parkinson's disease slowly robbed her of her ability to play the piano and eventually the ability to walk.She was preceded in death by her brothers LaVor, Clyde and Melvin. She is survived by her brothers Irven, Harley, Lorell, Clarence and her sister Doris. She is also survived by her husband Dan, her five children, 27 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the Broomhead Funeral Home at 2200 W. 12600 South, Riverton Utah. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. with a viewing an hour prior, on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in the LDS chapel at 12242 S. 3200 W., Riverton Utah.
