Harrison, Dr. Danny E.Dr. Danny E. Harrison, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Montgomery, Alabama on February 19, 2017.Dr. Harrison was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Solin and Edna Delaney Harrison; sisters, Bernice Harrison Parvin and Gratia Underwood LaFontaine; a brother, Reverend William H. Harrison; and son-in-law Glen Barry Smith.Danny was born on March 30, 1937 in Corinth, Mississippi. He lost his father at a young age and his older brother Billy comforted him, reassuring they would be okay because they had Jesus. This strong faith has carried him throughout his entire life, leading his family in strength and wisdom, showing the love of Christ in every word and deed. Danny will always be remembered by his kind and gentle ways and his caring spirit.Born and raised in Corinth, MS, he was a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He earned his Masters in Christian Education at Emory University; and after working with the United Methodist Church for several years, he returned to his beloved Mississippi State to receive his Masters and Doctorate of Philosophy. He taught at Delta State University in Mississippi before coming to Auburn University Montgomery in 1972 where he was professor of sociology, Head of Department, and academic advisor to the Bachelor of Liberal Arts students. He retired in 1999, continuing to serve as part-time academic advisor for several years. He was a great educator, loved by his students and considered the best. An avid fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, he also enjoyed Auburn football and attended all home games with his wife and family. Danny enjoyed spending time with his wife of 35 years. They especially enjoyed traveling and hiking the trails of North Georgia and the Great Smoky Mountains, playing bridge with friends, along with many other activities. They complimented each other and strengthened each other in every aspect of life. Danny was an active member of Frazer UMC for more than 40 years, where he served on Board of Stewarts, taught Sunday school, and served as a certified United Methodist Lay Speaker. He was active in the Central Alabama Emmaus Community and served as lay director of the Central Alabama Walk to Emmaus #18. He has inspired, strengthened and loved people to Christ for many years through his Bible teaching, speaking and serving. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Goodroe Harrison; four daughters, Grace Harrison Pugh (Kenny); Julia Harrison Ingram (Mike); Julie Smith Lankford (Terrell); Penni Wells Jeter (Kevin); eight grandchildren, Taylor Pugh Prince (Clint); Emily Pugh; Andy Bolin; Lauren Smith; Matt Jeter; Chris Jeter; Amy Smith; John David Jeter; and three great-grandchildren Conner Foucault, Haley Foucault, Harrison Prince. He leaves behind one brother, Gerald Harrison (Linda); sister-in-law, June Harrison; a nephew who is like a brother, Steve Parvin (Martha Ruth), and many other special nephews and nieces.Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22 from 12:30 until 2:00 at Frazer United Methodist Church. Celebration of life service will follow at 2:00 at Frazer United Methodist Church with Dr. Tim Thompson conducting the service, assisted by Rev. Allison Stacey Parvin.
