Cynthia Vines Wilkins, 86, of Washington, D.C., passed Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Cynthia was born to Ernest Linwood Vines, and Cynthia Rose (Harge), October 18, 1933 in Portsmouth, Virginia.
While living in Portsmouth and working as an organist for the church she met Theodore Wilkins Jr. (Ted) , affectionately known as "Sonny" by his family, a tall and dashingly handsome Navy sailor based in Norfolk at the time. They soon fell in love and married at St. Augustine's Church in Washington DC On February 1, 1957 and remained so until his passing on February 5, 2011. While raising her children she also worked to supplement her husband's income doing things like selling Stanley Home products and Tupperware while also providing child care services for neighbors and friends. She also served as federal employee briefly working at the Pentagon, NIH, and GSA before transferring to the Enviromental Protection Agency where, after 34 years of federal service, she retired in 1992.
Cynthia left behind eight beautiful children: Theodore Joseph (TJ), Byron Anthony, Gregory Paul, Jonathan Wayne, Jacqueline Bouvier (Charles) , Cynthia Madeline, Katrina Ann (Jackson), and the youngest one John David Oliver Wilkins. Also her grandchildren and great grand children that will miss her dearly.
