Curtis "Curt" N. Stevens of Nicholson died at Geisinger Community Medical Center on Oct. 31, 2016, at 12:08 p.m., surrounded by his loving family from complications related to acute myelogenous leukemia. He and his twin brother, Phillip, were born on June 16, 1938, to the late Lowell and Sarah "Sally" Price Stevens in Scranton. Curtis was married to the former Cynthia Ceccarelli, and they joyfully celebrated their 49th anniversary on July 1, 2016. A graduate of Central High School, Curt served four and a half years in the Naval Air Force, attended Keystone College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary physical education from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. He and Cynthia taught in the Des Moines public schools before deciding to move back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family. The remainder of his career was in sales, presently as an independent contractor with Halo Branded Solutions, Sterling, Ill. Curt with his beautiful blue eyes was the most positive, upbeat, courageous person you would ever want to meet. He lived each day to the fullest and was an inspiration to others facing cancer. His engaging personality drew many people to him, who remain lifelong friends. He had many varied interests, enjoyed recreational running and decided in his 70s to study classical guitar with his teacher, Jay Stevesky.An ever-ready volunteer, Curt was past president of the Keystone College Alumni Association, served on the board of trustees of Keystone College, NRCI Board of Northeast Regional Cancer Institute and co-chairman of Survivors Day Program, PA Cooperative Extension Board, Nicholson Zoning Board, Wyoming County Planning Commission, director of Mercy 5K for many years, member of Classical Guitar Society of NEPA, supporter of the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department and he was the glue that kept the Nicholson Couples Group together for over 40 years. In addition to his wife, Cynthia, Curt is survived by his twin brother, Phillip and wife, Jane, Deer Lake; brother, Lowell and wife, Judy, Chinchilla; sister, Elaine and husband, Albert Young, Scranton; sister-in-law, Sandra and husband, Bill Irion, Nicholson; his wonderful aunts, Dorothy Price and Millie Babcock; and 14 cousins. Additionally, our family has been blessed with very special nieces and nephews, Jacqueline and Frank Harris, Audra Young, April and Dan Beky, Janice and Peter Farrell, Dallas and Carl Young, Bruce and Judy Stevens, Jennifer and Scott Wohlgemuth, Jonathan and Sarah Stevens; and 15 great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-nephew.The family wishes to thank the Factoryville Ambulance crew, the doctors and nurses in the emergency department and ICU for the tender, loving care they provided Curt and his family.Cynthia sends special thanks to Dr. Padmaja Bojanapally and her nurse, Liz, at Hematology and Oncology Associates of NEPA, Dr. Patricia Kropf and John Behrend PA-C at Temple Fox Chase and to all the exceptional nurses and staff who cared so much and helped make a difficult time easier. A celebration of Curt's life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Nicholson United Methodist Church, 64 State St., Nicholson. Visiting time will be 1:30 to 3 p.m. with the service immediately following, celebrated by Pastor John Shaffer.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Curt's memory to AstraZeneca of Philadelphia, 110 W.
