Curtis Neal Maxey, 59, of Porter, was called home to Glory by our loving Lord on the morning of Monday, August 24, 2015. As he stated many times, he did not want to leave, but he was ready to go. He had full confidence in knowing that he would see Jesus face to face when his journey on this earth ended.

Curtis was born on April 18, 1956 to Carl and Augusta (Dawtye) Maxey in Austin, Texas. A proud Texan, he grew up in Austin, Irving, and Pasadena; attended Sam Rayburn High School, San Jacinto College, and graduated from University of Houston-Clear Lake with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He put his degree to good use by making a career out of banking. He worked for many banks in his lifetime, including Channelview Bank, Prime Bank, Wells Fargo, Main Street Bank, and The Mint National Bank.

In 1982, he became a member of the North Channel Kiwanis Club. Having perfect attendance from the beginning, he served as President twice. He also served as Lieutenant Governor for Division 28 and as treasurer of the Texas Oklahoma Past Lieutenant Governors Association. After his years in the North Channel Kiwanis Club, he transferred to the Kiwanis Club of Kingwood. During his years in Kingwood, he served as the AKTION Club District Administrator for the Texas Oklahoma District, firmly establishing the KIWANIS program for adults living with disabilities. He grew the Aktion Club program from one club to eleven, and through his tireless efforts he received the Vision award from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability on behalf of the TX/OK District. His involvement with the Aktion Club and The Village Learning & Achievement Center brought Curtis great joy. Curtis also enjoyed serving in many positions in the churches he attended in Pasadena and considered Brothers Andy Kite, Denny Autry, and Dr. Ron Lyle to be influential in his spiritual life.

An avid fisherman, Curtis delighted in spending time on the water in Sargent, TX. When he wasn't casting from his boat, he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to fish from the pier of his beloved creek house. A long time season ticket holder of the Astros, Texans, and UH Cougars, he spent many a season cheering on his favorite teams and loved giving his sons and brother-in-law a hard time about their loyalty to the Cowboys. Although he would have considered himself a simple "collector" of many things, he had a hard time letting go of anything that he found of sentimental value.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Kim; his children: daughter Jessica Melott and son-in-law Scott of New Braunfels, daughter Patty Jo Sheets and son-in-law Wes of Chicago, son Barlow of New Braunfels and his girlfriend Brooke, son and daughter-in-law Kirk and Alyssa Doxey of Kingwood; mother-in-law and father-in-law Johnie and Lynn Davidson of Camilla Cove; brother, Doug Maxey and sister -in- law Janet; sister Carole and brother-in -law Ernest Lopez of Pasadena, sister Nancy and brother-in-law Donny Taylor of Pearland; beloved granddaughters Jo Jo, Lucy, Ruthie, Lilly, and Saroja Melott; grandson Kaden Doxey; mother of his children and dear friend Rhonda Allen of New Braunfels; several nieces and nephews; many cousins; a host of great friends; and one or two people that didn't care much about him.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, August 28th at Kingwood Funeral Home. To honor Curtis' loyal and fun-loving spirit, the family requests that you wear Houston Texans, Houston Astros, UH Cougars, or some sort of fishing attire to the visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, 2015.
