Clyde Hopkins Obituary

Jun 21, 1944 - Jan 23, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
RACINE - Clyde Hopkins, husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, passed away Saturday, January 23rd, 2016. He was born on June 21st, 1944, in Racine to John and Virginia (Adolphi) Hopkins, and was an enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. Clyde enlisted in 1964 and was a Specialist Fourth Class in the 101st Airborne Division in the US Army. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Clyde was a hard worker. He was employed as a machinist for Twin Disc, Inc., for 41 years, and retired in 2008. No one was busier or could accomplish more in a day than Clyde. We could rarely, if ever, keep up with him. An avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoors-man, Clyde preferred communing with nature to being indoors. Clyde was brave; he ventured out onto ice to fish even after everyone else packed up for spring. He cut down trees and chopped wood to heat the family home. Clyde grew flowers and vegetables and was proud to share his bounty with family and friends. A lover of jellies, pies, stews, and fried inland fish, Clyde also excelled at making buttermilk pancakes and too much bacon. Clyde and his now-departed mother-in-law were the only family members who enjoyed the Christmas traditional Lutefisk. Clyde was loyal and reliable. While it was hard for him to accept assistance in his last weeks, the line of family and friends offering to help filled him with love and gratitude. Always heard was, "Clyde would do the same for me". Survived by his wife, June; son Kurt Hopkins; daughter Erin (Christopher Baldoni); five grandchildren, Noah, Seth, Lily, Luke, and Evan; sisters Marcella (George) Feil and Delores Gautsch; brothers Richard (Sandy) Hopkins, Gary (Judy) Hopkins, Robert Hopkins, and Thomas (Julie) Hopkins; and many nieces and nephews. Clyde counted many as friends and loved them like family. Memorial services will be held at Sturino funeral Home on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 4 p.m. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. to service time at 4p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at sturino funeralhome.com Sturino Funeral Home 3014 Northwestern Ave. Racine, WI 53404 262-632-4479
