Clifton E. Adams Obituary

Feb 01, 2016 - Nov 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
BRISTOL - Clifton Adams Sr., 89, of Bristol passed away on Nov. 13, 2016, at home, holding his loving wife Evelyn's hand. Cliff was born on Feb. 19, 1927, in East Barre, son of Everett and Rose Adams. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Rollins, on Aug. 9, 1947. Cliff lived most of his life in Barre, where he and Evie built their home and raised three children. They moved to Bristol in 2000 to be closer to their children. Cliff joined the U.S. Navy on Oct. 10, 1945, and served as a seaman 1st class on the USS Caloosahatchee. Later, Cliff worked as a foreman for Ready Plastic Co. in Montpelier. He changed careers and found his passion as a loss control representative for Co-operative Insurance until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion, member of St. Monica Catholic Church and most recently, of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Cliff enjoyed family activities, most of all, coaching, and watching his sons play baseball in earlier years. He enjoyed traveling, square dancing, camping, snowmobiling and spending winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. Cliff took up golf later in life and enjoyed it immensely. He was known for regularly trying to pull off impossible golf shots and occasionally succeeding - to his delight. Cliff was an honest, hard-working man who loved his family. One of his greatest joys in life was playing cards with family and friends. He had a great poker face, especially when he was playing a bit underhandedly, resulting in one granddaughter saying, "That was rude, Grampa!" after one of his plays. Cliff is survived by his princess, Evie, his wife of 69 years, and his three children: Clifton Adams Jr., partner, Liz Macfarlane; Steven Adams, wife Mary Lynne Isham; daughter Bonnie Clark, husband Ray; and a brother, Russell Adams. Cliff also leaves four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Cliff was predeceased by his parents and sister, Evelyn Moran. In celebration of Cliff's life a Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol on Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. Following the service, a luncheon will be held downstairs. The burial will be held at a later date in Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center. The family wishes to thank all of Cliff's wonderful nurses, caregivers, Dr. John Matthew for years of quality care, and Dr. Jeffrey Wulfman. For those who wish to make a donation in Cliff's memory, donations may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 11 School St., Bristol, VT 05443; or to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
