Clark Clinton Folgate, 90Springhill, FL - Clark Clinton Folgate, age 90, of Springhill, FL died peacefully at the Sturgill Hospice Care Center, Brooksville, FL on October 31, 2017. He was greeted in Heaven by his Savior Jesus Christ. Clark lived a full and active life filled with love, joy, kindness, and compassion, and his life's work is now rewarded with the eternal Joy of Heaven.Clark was born on May 15, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio. After graduating from Macomber High School in 1945 he served in the
U.S. Navy during
WWII. Thanks to the GI Bill he had the opportunity to attend Bowling Green State University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. He went on to receive his Masters of Education from the University of Toledo in 1960, and completed Post Master's work at the University of Toledo and Ball State University. Education was a very important part of Clark's life, and he dedicated himself to being a life-long learner and to sharing his passion with others through the public school systems.In 1951 his professional career began as a Driver's Education teacher in the Toledo Public Schools, where he also taught History and coached football and golf until 1960. He then went on to be the Director of Secondary Curriculum for the Lucas County Schools, Assistant Director of Membership Services for the Midwest Program of Airborne Television (MPATI) at
Purdue University, and finally joined the Marion Community Schools (Indiana) in 1965. He retired from there in 1986 having served as a teacher, junior high principal, and Director of Secondary Curriculum.Clark was an avid golfer and enjoyed many father and son tournaments with his son Steve, and local challenges with his brother Kent. He was very social and enjoyed being a member of many groups throughout his life. These groups included Phi Delta Kappa, Association for Supervision/Curriculum Development, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Marion
Rotary Club, Marion Human Relations Commission, Marion Community Concert Board of Directors, Marion Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, Service Corps of Retired Executives, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Woodland Trails Community Association, and Natures' Glen Villa Village Association in the Timber Pines retirement community. He was also very active in his local church, Northcliffe Baptist Church, Springhill, Florida. He studied the Word daily and enjoyed sharing inspirational messages with family and friends.Clark dearly loved his family and is survived by his wife of 14 years, Norma Folgate, Springhill, FL; daughter Linda Barnes (Dave), Hayden, ID; son Clinton Folgate, Muncie, IN; son Steven Folgate (Denise), Yorktown, IN; brother Kent Folgate (Yuko), Springhill, FL; grandsons Paul Barnes, New York, NY and Sam Barnes (fiancé Anna), Seattle, WA; granddaughters Meghan Zick (Mike), Muncie, IN, and Erin Hagerman (Brock), Anderson, IN. He adored becoming a great grandfather to McKenna Palmer Zick and namesake Clark Brady Hagerman.Clark was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Sally Elizabeth (Palmer) Folgate, father Clark A. Folgate, and mother Mabel Folgate Busdicker.Clark will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery in Marion, IN with a private family gathering at a later date.
