Clarence Edward Bessey of Tawas City formerly of Flint, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital, age 81 years. Clarence was born on July 5, 1932 to Walter and Sadie (Johnson) Bessey. He proudly served our country in the Army/Civil Engineers from 1952 to 1954. He then spent six years in the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal Tech. Clarence married his wife, Maxine (Baucus) in November 1959, and together they celebrated 40 years of marriage until her passing on Sept. 16, 2000. He was employed by General Motors - Buick in Flint for 25 years as a machine operator. Those who knew Clarence will always remember how he truly enjoyed working in his yard and riding his bike to town and even beyond. Clarence is survived by his four children, Chuck Ulman of Sterling Heights, Jan (Perry) Frey of Lamar, Ind., Don (Sharlete) Ulman of Lamar, Ind. and Deb Schwartz of Grand Blanc; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Phyllis) Bessey of Tawas City and Jim (Elaine) Bessey of Florida; two sisters, Betty Cannon of Flint and Charlotte Bessey of Tawas City; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; parents, Walter and Sadie Bessey; one brother, Harold Bessey; one sister, Clara Stephenson; and one son, Eddie Ulman. Funeral services with military honors were held Saturday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City. An interment will take place in the Tawas City Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tawas City Moose Lodge.
