Wellenstein, Clara M.Mrs. Clara Wellenstein passed away Wednesday morning, March 1, 2017 at Belgium Garden's, just a few weeks away from her 99th birthday. Clara was born on the family farm in Dacada on April 18, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Katherine Schommer Schmitz. On October 22, 1938, Clara was united in marriage with Clarence Weyker at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. The couple moved to Lake Church and began farming. Mrs. Weyker also worked as a skiver at Lake Church Leather (later Allen Edmonds), retiring after 28 years. Clarence preceded her in death in 1983. Clara married Elmer Wellenstein on July 13, 1985 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lake Church. He preceded her in death in 2009. Mrs. Wellenstein was a member of Divine Savior Parish and the Christian Women's Guild. She was a hard worker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, gardening, cooking and canning. Folks who came to visit her never went away without some home-baked treat to take home. She also enjoyed attending Red Hat events, playing Bingo and cards- especially sheepshead.Clara is survived by her daughter Nancy (John) Jentges of Belgium, son-in-law Leo Zoeller of Cedarburg, daughter-in-law Linda (John) Zeleske of Fond du Lac and stepchildren Jean (John) Wildhagen of Port Washington, JoAnn (Clark) Weeden of Plymouth and Arlene (the late Gary) Flerchinger of Tennessee. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Further survivors include her sisters Helen (the late Archie) Thomes of Belgium, Evelyn (the late Joseph) Walber of the Town of Belgium, and Grace (the late George) Lanser of Port Washington, brother John (Mary) Schmitz of Belgium, sister-in-law Monica Schmitz, also of Port Washington, numerous nieces & nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husbands Clarence Weyker and Elmer Wellenstein, son Daniel Weyker, daughter JoAnn Zoeller, stepson-in-law Gary Flertchinger and brothers Emil, Erwin, Alex, Arthur, Arnold, Nicholas, Gilbert, Francis and Cyril Schmitz.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6PM on Wednesday, March 8th at Divine Savior Parish- Holy Cross Chapel, 5332 Hwy B, Town of Belgium. Father Jim Ernster and Father Jim Vojtik will con-celebrate the Mass. She will be laid to rest the next day in St. Mary Parish Cemetery, Lake Church. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Wednesday from 4-6PM.
