Stephen Duma, ChevalierNaples, FLStephen was honored in 2009 to be made a chevalier as a recipient of the French Medal of Honor by the French Legion of Honor.Steve was a proud WWII Veteran, having served in the Army 145th Medical Battalion in France. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Germany, Rhineland, Belgium, and England.He died on April 1, 2017 from a lengthy illness of dementia at home with his family by his side. He was born on 2-2-22 in Bethlehem, PA to the late Anna and Joseph Duma.Steve is survived by his wife, Catherine; two daughters, Jaclyn and Jan; grandchildren, Alexandra and P. Dillon; and sister, Helen.He graduated from Liberty/Votec, Bethlehem Business College, The Pennsylvania State University in Real Estate-Appraisal. Steve was employed at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Plant Engineering. Later, with AE Callone Real Estate.Steve volunteered in the church and community at the Bethlehem Boys Club, he taught gymnastics, wrestling, basketball, boxing. He was a member of the Boys Club Fraternity, and chairman of the Banquet of Champions, which honors an outstanding athlete each year.He also went on trips with an International Church group to areas in Alaska (4 years), Mexico, Kentucky, and Maine where missionaries needed repairs on churches, homes, Bible schools, etc., similar to Habitat for Humanity.A sportsman, hunter, archer, and avid deep water, ice, and fly fisherman. He fished Alaska, Canada, Puerto Rico, the North Platt River in Wyoming, Key West, and everything in between. He taught his daughters and grandchildren everything from fishing, gardening, to every sport they wanted to learn. He prided in spending all his time with them.A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11AM at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens (525 111th Avenue North, Naples, FL 34108).In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stephen Duma Memorial Fund for his grandchildren's education (PO Box 111261, Naples, FL 34108-0122).
