MANTUA - Chester Hal Rasmussen, 74, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, after a valiant and lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on July 4, 1934, in Mantua, a son of Chester John and Bernice Halling Rasmussen. He was the oldest of three children. He married Janette Bailey Wyatt on June 12, 1959, in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He dedicated his life to taking care of and supporting his family. He taught gospel principles through his example in his daily living and love for the scriptures. He was a member of the LDS Church and served as a bishop and in many other callings, including in the church's extraction program. He served a mission in the Denmark Copenhagen mission. He was generous with his time and talents in serving others throughout his life. He loved his family and particularly enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He loved the out of doors and spent many hours hiking and hunting. He enjoyed guns and reloading ammunition. He enjoyed traveling, visiting the Holy Land, Europe, South America, Mexico and places throughout the United States. He began his career teaching and was the director of transportation for Box Elder School District for many years. He was in the United States Army Reserve and served active duty during the Berlin Wall Crisis. Surviving are his wife, Janette, and his six married children: Jennifer and Clark Whitworth, Lorna and Edward White, Kirk and Ida Mae Rasmussen, Randy and Lisa Rasmussen, Eric and Michelle Rasmussen, and Eileen and David Beveridge; 25 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his two sisters: Janet Reeves and Shirley Burnham. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Mantua Ward Chapel, 237 S. Willard Peak Rd., Mantua. Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and Monday from 10 to 10:40 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mantua Cemetery.
